Rendeavour tours U.S. to attract suppliers

Rendeavour, Africa’s largest urban land developer, announces a Business Matchmaking tour to the United States that aims to attract American exporters and service providers to the company’s satellite city projects which will house over 500,000 people and major companies in Africa over the next 20 years.

With over 30,000 acres of satellite community developments in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo, Rendeavour’s American shareholders are eager to ensure U.S. companies are aware of business opportunities in Africa and participate in Rendeavour’s procurement processes.

Rendeavour plans to source approximately $500 million in American products and services over the next five years, with an additional $1.5 billion projected in the years to follow. Rendeavour’s commercial mission is to “Buy American” for its projects, enhance the quality of its developments and increase American exports to sub-Saharan Africa and bi-lateral trade in key sectors.

The Business Matchmaking tour focuses on four sectors: ICT and Smart Community Technology, Renewable Energy, Construction, Security Systems and Healthcare Facilities.

“If your business operates in these sectors and wants to export its product or service to Africa with a trusted partner, we want to meet you,” said Preston Mendenhall, Rendeavour’s Head of Corporate Affairs, who will be leading the tour.

Appolonia Donates Medical Equipment to Community Health Centre

As part of its commitment to improving the lives of people in the local community, Appolonia the mixed-use urban development near Accra has donated a range of medical equipment to the community health centre.
“Companies like Appolonia are essential partners needed to promote development in every community,” said Mrs Patience Mamattah, Health Director for the Kpone Katamanso District. She went on to thank Appolonia for the commitment shown toward improving the health of the local community and neighbouring towns.
Medical items provided to the community health centre included an autoclave machine, suction machine, angle poise lamp, wheel chair, delivery and dressing sets, sterilization drums, medical trolley, examination couch, oxygen cylinder with flow meter, screens and drip stands.
“In line with our Social responsibility policy, Appolonia will be widen its support to the local community over the coming months,” said Anthony Okyere, CEO of Appolonia. He also expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for the support and co-operation received.
In July 2014, Appolonia fully renovated the community health centre in order to position the facility to be able to deliver quality health care.
Following the work, Appolonia assisted the community facility with the acquisition of accreditation from the National Insurance Scheme. The facility commenced operations as an accredited service provider in July 2015, increasing the access and delivery of health care by over 100 percent. Residents who previously had to commute long distances to access health care and thus risking their lives can today access quality health care locally.

Appolonia commissions first power substation

Appolonia, the mixed-use urban development near Accra, has commissioned its first power substation, which will serve the first 4,000 residents at the project.

The privately funded substation, which is specially designed to withstand heavy rains and flooding, is one of the first of its kind in north of Accra. The substation’s 20/26MW power transformer was manufactured in India by Crompton Greaves Limited and designed in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana, a unique demonstration of a private sector-led expenditure in close co-operation with a Ghanaian public utility.

Speaking at the commissioning, Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Kwabena Mintah Akandoh lauded the innovation of Appolonia and its lead investor Rendeavour in finding solutions to the electricity needs of the project.

Akandoh emphasized the importance of the private sector to national development and urged investors to explore ways of ensuring that they both meet their core business mandate.

Frank Mosier, Rendeavour board director and lead U.S. investor in Appolonia, highlighted the co-operation between all stakeholders: “What we see today is testament to partnership. This important investment has only been possible through close co-ordination between the Ghanaian government, our partners in the community and the private sector.” Mosier continued, “We look forward to continued relationships with all Appolonia stakeholders related to Appolonia and welcome further involvement from the private sector in achieving further development at the site.”

Anthony Okyere, CEO of Appolonia noted that the station will deliver power to more than 15,000 people and 4,000 homes within five years, and nearly 90,000 people in total, over 15 years. Aside from residents the substation will also serve commercial areas at Appolonia, such as retail, schools and health facilities.

“After working with the Electricity Company of Ghana and Crompton Greaves Limited, we are proud that the first of the three power substations has been acquired, installed and readied to supply electricity to Appolonia. Concluding this important step is proof of our commitment to this project,” he added.


Tatu City and University of Nairobi partner on practical experience

Department of Real Estate and Construction Management and Tatu City establish partnership.

Tatu City, the mixed-use, mixed-income satellite city development on 2,500 acres near Nairobi, is offering practical experience to postgraduate candidates from the University of Nairobi’s Department of Real Estate & Construction Management (RECM).

During their inaugural visit to Tatu City, which will be home to 100,000 residents and receive 30,000 visitors daily, a group of RECM postgraduate candidates were introduced to Tatu City’s implementation strategy and the challenges of project planning and project management of a large- scale urban development.

The group of postgraduate candidates included individuals studying for master’s degrees in valuation and property management and construction management. Among the group were registered and practising architects, quantity surveyors, land valuers, engineers, land surveyors, project managers, property managers and estate agents.

Tatu City and RECM have agreed to establish a framework for long-term cooperation, with further engagement to include regular visits by postgraduate candidates for the next five years. Tatu City also aims to give the students an opportunity to master plan a parcel of land slated for development, and to develop a feasibility study for the selected site. The students were also invited to develop demand and supply surveys of residential, commercial and industrial areas; to analyse the infrastructure rollout at Tatu City; and to conduct a vehicular traffic surveys of the area.
