Rendeavour Reach Empowering Communities

True urban development must be inclusive, equitable, and centred on improving quality of life. Our approach to social responsibility ensures that communities thrive not only physically, but also socially and economically. We deliver affordable and diverse housing that fosters stability and prevents displacement, while engaging residents, especially underrepresented groups, in shaping their own neighbourhoods.

We prioritize access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and digital connectivity, alongside urban design that promotes safety, wellbeing, and a healthy lifestyle. By supporting local businesses and creating new employment opportunities, we strengthen local economies and empower communities. At the same time, we celebrate cultural heritage and activate public spaces to build identity, belonging, and pride.

Central to our new city developments in Africa’s most dynamic markets is a commitment to the people who call these lands home. Through Rendeavour Reach initiative, our social impact initiative, we invest in programmes that empower local communities, from healthcare, education, and community development to environmental conservation and women’s empowerment. Our goal is to make a lasting difference in the lives of those who live in and around our cities.

This social purpose is guided by a strong commitment to sustainability and benchmarked against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standards. By aligning with the principles of the 2030 Agenda, we ensure that sustainable development is fully embedded within our four ESG pillars: Education, Community, Healthcare, and Conservation.

  • Community Engagement
Environmental protection and community investments are vital to self-sustaining and balanced transformation. Long-term economic development will only be sustainable if humans and the environment are equally valued.

Rendeavour prioritises building strong and sustainable relationships with the local community. Our local communities are the long-term custodians of our land and provide the cultural identity for our cities. Rendeavour is dedicated to making a positive impact on the communities we operate in, the environment we coexist with and the stakeholders we serve.

From the outset, we engage our communities in the urban planning and development process to ensure that our cities reflect their cultural identity and accommodate their needs.

We provide community members with priority access to employment opportunities and offer free skills training to enhance their employability. In Tatu City, Kenya, our Labour Desk manages a database of over 10,000 community members, ensuring rotational job placements across various projects.

Through our training academies, we empower local youth with essential vocational skills, offering free courses in masonry, plumbing, plastering, steel fixing and security. With an 80% employment placement rate, our academies are making a tangible impact. Additionally, we are paving the way for the future by creating thousands of digital job opportunities, including roles in contact centres and software engineering, contributing to Africa’s growing digital economy.
  • Education
We believe in empowering communities through education. In Tatu City, Kenya, we have launched a transformative school meals programme which provides nutritious midday meals to over 2,000 children daily. Since 2016, our efforts have delivered more than two million high-nutrition meals, driving a remarkable increase in enrolment, attendance and academic performance. This initiative improves nutrition and boosts attendance, ensuring students are better equipped to focus on their studies.

Beyond meals, we enhance learning environments by rehabilitating school facilities, supplying new furniture and providing educational materials that help create a safe, engaging space for students. For example, in Alaro City, Nigeria, we undertook a refurbishment project at St. Christ School in Epe to address the urgent need for better educational infrastructure amongst local communities in the area. We believe that by investing in our community schools, we can make a significant contribution to helping students reach their full potential.

We also complement school curriculum with life skills and sports coaching through partnerships with organisations like the Tatu Rugby Foundation. Together with our partners, we are shaping healthier, more resilient communities and fostering a brighter future for Africa’s next generation.
  • Health and Wellness
Bringing affordable healthcare and wellbeing to our local communities is a top priority for Rendeavour. We support local community health centres to ensure residents have 24/7 access to top-class medical facilities.

These health centres have benefitted from grants and renovation from Rendeavour. For example, Curafa Medical Clinic in Tatu City, Kenya, delivers high-quality, convenient healthcare for low-income communities. The centre provides medical services to over 10,000 workers and members of the community.

In Appolonia, Ghana, we refurbished a local health centre and donated essential healthcare equipment and infrastructure. We continue to provide reliable electricity and water to enable the facility to provide national health insurance services to members of the local community.
  • Environmental Conservation
Our Strategic Environmental Assessment plan reflects our unwavering commitment to creating sustainable natural environments, ensuring that as our cities grow, nature remains at their core. Our masterplans prioritise the preservation of green spaces, dedicating at least 20 percent of urban land to parks, green links and open spaces that foster harmony between urban life and the environment.

At the heart of these are our city nurseries, which cultivate millions of indigenous trees and plants that enrich our cities’ biodiversity and natural beauty. In parallel, we are rewilding large tracts of land, transforming it into flourishing natural ecosystems where native plants and wildlife can thrive.
