Tatu City, the mixed-use, mixed-income satellite city near Nairobi, has selected U.S.-based Power Engineers Inc. to consult on the development’s power requirements.

A specialist in the engineering, design and construction management for electrical power transmission and distribution systems, Power Engineers is one of the largest consulting engineering firms in the United States. Power Engineering has delivered projects in dozens of countries for clients such as the World Bank, U.S. Trade and Development Agency and Inter-American Development Bank.

Tatu City’s first residential phase, Kijani Ridge, has received strong interest from the market, with more than 60% of plots sold.

The Tatu Industrial Park recently announced that global consumer giant Unilever will build a manufacturing facility within its 420-acre light industrial zone, following well-known Kenya and East African companies Dormans, Kim-Fay and Maxam that are moving from Nairobi’s congested industrial area to traffic-free Tatu City.

Tatu City is a 2,500-acre, mixed-use and mixed-income development with residential, commercial, industrial, tourism, social and recreation amenities for more than 70,000 residents and 30,000 day visitors. Underlying Tatu City’s design is a visionary concept aiming to shift urban development in Kenya from the familiar single node model to a decentralized urban environment. By doing so, Tatu will significantly de-congest the City of Nairobi by offering a unique live, work and play environment.
