Tatu City acquires Siemens switchgear for new 66/11kV substation

Tatu City, the 5,000-acre new city located just 30 minutes north of Nairobi, has acquired Siemens switchgear for installation in the city’s new dedicated power substation.

Of the 18 panels required for the private substation, built under the supervision of Kenya Power and Lighting Company, six, reserved for the first phase of development, have undergone testing for installation.

Headquartered in Berlin and Munich, Siemens is a German conglomerate company, which provides power generation and power transmission solutions globally.

Tatu City has access to up to 135MVA of power for the city, which is planned for a population of 150,000 residents and tens of thousands of day visitors. Tatu City also will tap an additional 30MW of solar power it is installing on the rooftops of logistics and manufacturing facilities in Tatu Industrial Park. In April, the first 1MW of power was installed on the roof of Dormans, whose global headquarters is located in Tatu Industrial Park.

Currently at Tatu City, two schools – Crawford International and Nova Pioneer – are open and educating 2,000 students daily, within walking distance of more than 5,000 homes under construction or development. Tatu Industrial Park features more than 50 companies, and completed infrastructure includes 20km of tarmacked roads, as well as power, water and sewerage.
