Tatu City boosts youth sport funding by KES 4 million

Tatu City, as part of its community outreach programs, has boosted its funding to the East Africa Character Development Trust (EACDT), which transforms the lives of disadvantaged young Africans through sport and education. Tatu City’s annual commitment now amounts to KES 4 million.

The commitment by Tatu City, the 5,000-acre Special Economic Zone on Nairobi’s doorstep, will fund EACDT’s expansion of sports programmes to additional state primary schools in Ruiru Municipality. EACDT is working in 17 schools in and around Nairobi, many located in slums and struggling to engage students in positive learning.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our programmes, thanks to Tatu City’s generosity,” said David Waters, Programme Director of EACDT. “Funding in the post-covid environment has become difficult for some companies, and we commend Tatu City’s readiness to provide steady support – and now increase it.”

“Tatu City is a long-term partner of EACDT, which we admire for its high-impact life skills programmes for disadvantaged youth, as well as for its dedication to the continued growth of cricket in Kenya,” said Tito Oduk, Director of Industrial Operations at Tatu City.

Tatu City supports the local community through priority access to jobs, a labour desk and daily meals in local primary schools. Since 2016, Tatu City has provided more than 1.2 million meals to schools in its vicinity.
